Frequently asked questions

This is where the market starts. On the range's most common car the curve is clean: a 2021 Captiva went for AED 24,000, a 2022 for AED 31,000 and a 2023 for AED 40,000. A 2018 Camaro sold at AED 37,000 — the coupe gets cheap quickly. Asking prices across our current UAE listings run from AED 9,500 to AED 249,000.

Average for a mainstream brand: taken across the model curves we can measure, Chevrolets average about 48% of their value after five years in the UAE.

Nissan costs less to keep and sells on more easily; Ford matches the American half of the range. Chevrolet's argument is simple: more car for the budget, provided you spend the difference on inspecting it.

These are high-mileage cars, so the inspection report is the purchase decision. Across more than 2,000 Chevrolets we have inspected in the UAE, 26% carried a fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering against the 17% we would expect for cars of the same age and mileage in the Emirates, and 64% showed previous body or panel repair where 58% is the expectation for cars of this age here. That is what a decade of daily use looks like on the market's cheapest cars: a history rather than a verdict, and the reason to read the mechanical and bodywork pages and price the work in. Interiors take the same punishment: 37% staining against the 30% expected for comparable cars.

The Captiva is the widest choice here and the cheapest seven-seat option going, if you buy on condition rather than price. The Traverse is the grown-up version. The Cruze is the cheapest automatic saloon, and the Camaro is the one nobody buys for practical reasons.
