The Explorer moved to a rear-drive-based platform for 2020, which transformed the way it drives and freed up the third row; the 2011 to 2019 car is the front-drive-based generation, facelifted in 2016. On a used budget, 2016 to 2019 buys the best of the old shape, while 2020 to 2022 is the one to stretch for.
