Frequently asked questions

2021 to 2023 is the sweet spot. The Granvia launched in 2019 on the current HiAce platform and has run in one generation since, with the same V6 throughout, so an early car is mechanically the same as a late one. Anything wearing the Granvia name from before 2019 is a different, much older vehicle.

The Kia Carnival is cheaper and drives more like a car, but we find an electrical or electronics fault on 33% of them against the 14% we would expect for people carriers of the same age and mileage here. The Mercedes V250 is plusher and dearer, and comes in at 36% on the same electrical measure against a 13% expectation for cars of its age. For load rather than passengers, the Toyota HiAce is the cheaper commercial version of the same machine.

The Granvias we inspect in the UAE come in at a median of around 67,000 km, and no fault category comes in above what we would expect for people carriers of the same age and mileage in the UAE. Many do transfer work, so mileage climbs quickly and means less than the service record does. Look for continuous servicing and cooling in good order — that is what heavy passenger duty in this heat punishes first.

  • Rear AC output at idle, with the car full if you can.
  • Seat rails, trim and door mechanisms, which show passenger use.
  • Service history against the odometer, not just the stamps.
  • Sliding doors and steps, worked repeatedly.
